WOW, I have been using my dehydrator like crazy! I bought an Excalibur dehydrator from Amazon and LOVE it! I can dehydrate ALOT at one time and it is evenly done. Much better then the small round dehydrators.

I think this year I am really going to be able to use much more of my garden harvest. I have made several soup mixes that are like the mixes made by Knorr, only minus all added preservatives. I bought a book that I really like, Mary Bell's Complete Dehydrator Cookbook. My sister and I have been working on making taco seasoning, meatloaf seasoning, dip mixes, etc. My kids can't get enough of the green apple/cinnamon apple chips that we made last week. I am making more tomorrow. The produce sales over the past month have been really good, so I haven't had to put much out for that.

For those of you looking for another way to store the food you grow, check out dehydrators and find a good book with recipes.

I was too. We can alot of produce, make jellies, etc. But there always seems to be more left over. My sister has a super blender that chops up dried foods. So we have made our own onion powder, paprika, etc. I think the dehydrator will really help us out up more foods in the pantry this summer.

If you can tomatoes you can dehydrate the skins then grind them up for tomato powder. Comes in handy for adding a tomato flavor to a dish without opening a can of them.

We use a Mr. Coffee Dehydrator...I need a new one desperately.

We make our own beef jerky on it, using london broil. I'm going to try the tomato thing too!
