you bet it is tough and think about our ancesters? They lived on farms, fought the insects all the time, depended on their harvest, to make a living, did all their own canning without dishwashers, auto seal taps, etc. We do it for fun, they did it for work, with no air conditioning, often no electricity and no gas.
As for the bugs, this just hasn't been a good year. I pick a couple of grape tomatoes daily (at most) I keep thinking the okra is gone, but it is still producing and so far I have plenty of cukes, but I know to tomatoes might as well all be pulled out. I doubt I will get anymore peppers.
Usually we have tomatoes up til Sept or Oct. I think I have mentioned that before. The last 2 years the heat has ended the production. Actually last year, because we got no rain all summer (even though it wasn't quite as hot) we lost them by the end of July, so guess I should be happy.
