NoKudzu I'm sorry I missed your post yesterday. I'm glad you got the answer either way, especially since I forgot to include the azalea gall. I did see the video in the meantime and am glad you had the answer to your question.

Nearly every leaf gall is considered a cosmetic issue and otherwise benign. The exceptions are when the insect either carries, or its burrowing allows, a fungus, virus or bacterium entry and that microbe then goes on to do far greater damage. Galls in other locations are another story.

Claudhopper there are usually good explanations for many of the things we see but they aren't always easy to find unless you already knew about them. I'm glad I could help and you don't feel so worried now.
