I purchased this plant at my local Whole Foods. It was only labeled as "tropical" and did not provide any care instructions. Can someone help me identify what it is. What are the sunlight, temperature, and watering requirements? Thanks.

I have one of those. It seems to be a quite forgiving plant. I've kept it in a semi sunny window, to a shady spot outside in Spring and Summer. I've thought others had been watering it, when they weren't, and it survives. I keep it fairly moist, but not overly moist, and do allow it to dry out just a bit.
The reason it went outdoors is because it was the one plant of my few tropical a that got Scale, so segregated it and sprayed it with Safersoap. So I'm inclined to think it is not as pest resistant as the other plants I have.

I love scheffleras, and they are so easy to keep but I can't have them because cats. The plants are toxic to both cats and dogs.

We've got native Schefflera here. They get to about 20 ft in two years.

OP is in New Jersey, so a Schefflera there will only be a houseplant. No worries about becoming a tree LOL!

I had one that didn't survive a move and that was fine with me. It had started taking up about a quarter of the living room!
