Kentucky Bluegrass. I usually see this if the grass is getting really tall but it has only been a few days since last cut and it's already flowering this time (mower left at the same height for years). Can anyone explain? It makes it look unkept.
Yep, when the grass sets seed like that it's time to mow again. Not unusual to need to mow every few days in late spring when things are really taking off, and before summer heat slows growth.
Set your alarm for daybreak tomorrow, then go outside and take a look at your grass when the first rays of sunlight strike those blooms - notice the faint bluish color? That's what gave Kentucky bluegrass its name!
Then get it mowed.
