Hi all, I have two orchids I'd like to remain alive while I'm away for four weeks - I normally soak them in water for an hour every week and they do fine. They are both in ceramic orchid pots with holes.
I'll soak them the morning I leave, but should I allow a couple of the roots to dangle in water the whole time I'm gone? I've gone two weeks before and they've been fine, but never four. Thanks.

If you value them that much, invest in a timer and some drip system items, and place them in the kitchen sink, running the tubing through a cracked open window from an outside faucet. Then set it to water 1 minute every week.
What Hemlock said. Some kind of timed watering system is the best advice of all.
If you can't set up a timed watering system then set the pots on top of some rocks in a large wide flat tray of some kind, one with a deep lip, and fill the tray to the top of the lip with water. It's okay to let a few roots tips dangle into the water, but not all of them. The water evaporating slowly out of the tray will provide some of the humidity that the plants and aerial roots need.
Hi, sorry, late to get back. They're both Phalenopsis - I'll check into the timed system, thanks!
They are indoors, and near my patio door, some filtered light.
