I've seen conflicting information online, does anyone know when the best time to apply fertilizer stakes for evergreen trees in the Spring? Does it have to be well after the last freeze by a few weeks?

Either early fall or springtime after the last freeze should be fine.

Thanks for the info, regarding the use of fertilizer stakes- do the trees have to be in the ground for at least 6-12 months before the application or is that not a factor?
Edit: I think the agreed upon answer based on various online sources is to wait longer.

If you are planting in the spring, I would use them in the fall with no problem.
