Wouldn't they much prefer a feeder with finch seed? Don't they like thistle seed. It's been years and I may be off on the thistle part.

Finches love my garden. The eat the seeds from the echinacea, black eyed susans, catnip, and sunflowers. It's so cool to see them clinging to the catnip stems -- there might be five or six of them at once in the catnip clump. My cats get a double bonus -- the catnip, natch ... and birdies feeding on the catnip seeds!

There's bull thistle in my neighbor's yard. It's just started blooming. Maybe this is the appetizer.

What kind of finches ? We have Goldfinch year around. They just become more colorful in breeding season.
We have Purple Finch only in winter.

Gold. I believe they were both females. I was hoping they would come back this evening.
