Yes this is so the big corporation farms can control the market. And they will sue you if the plants your growing from seed has any of their plant DNA in it for copyright infringement.
Just to let you know, most states have passed laws that ban this trumped up effort by Monsanto but for some reason the myth is still popular on the forum circuit. It was a stupid idea by a greedy corporation but was squashed by common sense. I am leery of the government too,but in this case common sense prevailed. It happens on occasion.
No, ozarksboy I do not mean you. I mean people that make $25,000.00 to $60,000.00 a year doing, AND THEY PAY LITTLE TAXES OR NO TAXES ON IT! Yes there are people in TN and KY I met doing this.
That is what I meant. I have always paid my taxes and think everyone should to.
Oh come on, don't back down now.
Like you I have known people that do this as well and it is just not right. I'm no angel, but even in the good book with VERY thin pages it says to pay your taxes.
As SCGranny stated, regulation will never take care of all the issues but if there is absolutely no oversight, the situation will kill people...literally. Someone has to be watching the food supply. If you are selling to the public then you, by your own choice, are agreeing to inspections. If you truly think the Gov will come in and inspect every food producer for no reason you do not deal with the USDA much. They don't have the people to do half of what they need now, much less more arbitrary inspections. I don't think too many consumers though would get upset at the idea of the POSSIBILITY of spot checks. I keeps people honest and gives them a bit more room to enforce issues if they become issues.
I think people are blowing this all out of proportion. It needs to be tweaked a bit, but the majority of it is not going to be an issue for credible producers.
Lettuce not get too worried about this silly bill. We've bean here before, no need to get pear-anoid. Bills like this sprout, but don't get far. They end up getting squashed. Peas, my friends.

My concern with people selling their produce/goods - are the ones on the sides of the roads that have been shown and proven to be made with food not safe for human consumption. IE taken out of fields to grow corn for cattle feed. (different restrictions regarding pesticide and fertilizer control

Are you saying some people sell field corn as sweet corn? Are you concerned about the genetically engineered corn?

Reason: re-read and am trying to figure out writer's meaning

According to what I have bought in the last 20 years in the supermarket, everybody is selling cow corn as sweet corn.
I have given up buying corn in the stores and will only buy it from a local farmer.
I think the same thing happened to watermelons.
The ones I get in the stores should be fed to the hogs.
