Are all gone, by way of neighborhood animals! I am so mad!! I took great care of them in the house too, until I transplanted them outside. Everyday, two or three spots were bare, so, I knew, eventually, they would all be gone. Oh well, I doubt I'll ever buy sunflower seeds again.

Awe I feel your pain.....
Some years I have great luck just tossing the seeds on the ground.
Last year I meticulously planted some seeds to grow in between my Glads, well Chipmunks transplanted them.
I might just go back to tossing them on the ground lol.
My seem to do great when it is not terribly wet. This year it has been raining regularly and they are dying left and right. I think the slugs and whatever little critters like cutting them off are much happier in this weather
This is my first year growing sunflowers. Lucikly mine are doing well except one and the ants have almost gnawed it in half. I've never seen ants eat a plant like that.
I haven't done seeds. I bought 3 baby sunflower plants at a farmers market last year, they were about 4.5' tall. After the season, I had 3 sticks, I've been watching then I saw little plants on the other side of the crescent border blocks lining my flower bed! I have 9 so far and I just moved the little wall!
Don't let it get you down. There is still time to get some in the ground. DOn't feel too bad, we have fox, deer, skunks, racoons, and neighborhood cats that eat things in my front yard. Is there a cute litlte fence you could put up? Hardware stores sometimes sell a picket fence that is attached with wire. It is cute around small gardens and flower beds.
We plant a sunflower forest every year. My kids call it a forest and it is a big hit on our street.
I always plant sunflower seeds and have never had problems with critters. I have several growing great, about 40, the other ten are just smaller. I still need to plant more. I need to get them in.
I planted about a dozen of the 'Mammoth' variety. They're about 2ft tall already and doing better than I expected.
Some of my sunflowers are now about 8ft tall and have young flower heads on them. (I think I planted more than a dozen, lol)
This one is from a leftover seed I tossed into my corn patch. It bloomed earlier and is not as big as the others, but I'm still surprised.
