Try eNature: America's Wildlife Resource. You can put in your zip code and what you are looking for - reptiles - snakes, and up comes all the snakes in your area. There are pictures and descriptions for you to id your visitor.

Click on "my settings" at the top left of the page - on the left look under Networking then Pictures & Albums. Make a new album and upload direct to citydata.
You can also google snakes Wisconsin (click images) then see if you can find a picture of it

My guess from your pictures is that your visitor is a DeKay's Brown Snake. They do not seem to be venomous (or there would be red warning text on enature.com) so I'd say s/he's a good snake. S/he'll be hunting slugs, earthworms and snails in your garden for her dinner.
Me too. They always have.
Intellectually, I appreciate them and respect their place in nature.
But I don't like to see them in my yard or in my woods.
I would never intentionally hurt one, but they do give me the creeps.

He is actually only about 11" long, not getting too close to measure, even without poison I get the curious heeby jeebies. I like to look not touch, lol.
We had a snake in our basement a few weeks ago.. my son measured him, 27 inches long.
He's not alive any more...
