My sisters pond in western Colorado is always filled with algae during the summer. Is there a way to get rid of this stuff and keep it clear?

There are anti-algecide stuff/chemicals to buy in the Big Box stores, which is non-toxic to critters.
At least down here in zone 10a. But the cold weather should kill it off I would think.

They tried that, algae comes back every summer. Ponds freeze over in the winter.

It's stagnet. Ducks, believe it or not, would help. Or torential rains.
Are they on land that it (the pond) was used for emergency irrigation, or where chemicals sprayed on crops? (such as an orchard)

Karmex kills everything green. It's common for pond use here, but illegal, so don't say what you are using it for.

I'll just edit this post instead of another one. After reading your post below about being an irrigation pond, DON'T USE THE KARMEX. It kills all plant life.

It's an irrigation pond, not sure how all this irrigation water thing works in Colorado, but it looks like the water runs from fields to these ponds on my sisters property and they use the water to water their lawn and shrubs and stuff outside. Torrential rains are not an option where they live, it's high desert. Maybe I'll get them some ducks.

If they are using any chemicals, that's what's doing it. That's what's also ruining our water here in Florida.

We had 2 irrigation ponds on our apple orchard in NY state & had the algae too. But we had ducks & managed to even have fish. But the winter cold did kill it off, til the hottest part of the summer.

Aquashade would be a good product to use in a pond that is used for irrigation.

Thanks I may get that for them. They said they had ducks, all flew off. I wonder if carp would work?
