I would like to plant azaleas. I was told they are a little tempermental. Rhobodrone are easier to grow. But at lowe's they had bushes with both names. I am confused.
Azaleas are in the rhododendron family. But they are different plants. Similar growing habits and requirements. Don't plant too deep and most require some shade.
Never had a problem with the cold and azaleas. My house at one time was my grandmothers. Over 30 years ago she planted 2 tiny azaleas bushes, purple and red.
Believe she planted them to get rid of them in the house, thinking they would probably die outside.
But now over 30 years (more like 35-40) those plants are still thriving. Trust me when I tell you that nothing has been done to care for them in any special way.
They are buried in show each winter, the dog uses them for a shade spot in summer ( and might be watering them also).
