I don't know a ton of interesting tidbits but:
My Grandfather made friends with Charles Schulz (creator of Peanuts) during world war two, they were in the same armored Division (20th).
I imagine just about anyone on here who is from the south has an ancestor who was in the civil war, but my direct paternal great great grandpa was in a book about the last living civil war vets. He joined the confederate army in Alabama when he was 12 or 13 and died 90 something years later in 1945 I believe. That's kind of cool. And his dad died in a pow camp in Chicago as a confederate soldier from TB.
My husband and daughter are both directly related to Machiavelli. The name remained in his family up until his great grandmother passed in the 90's. She was the last to still hold the name.
They also owned a spaghetti packing plant in Italy who later sold to Prince Spaghetti.
One of my 3rd great grandfathers owned a musket factory in Moore County, NC where the family built Kentucky-styled muskets from about 1770 to the 1830s. He requested a government contract to build muskets for the Americans at the Battle of New Orleans (Chalmette, Louisiana - 1814/15) in the War of 1812. I have a copy of his letter to Congress but no proof he ever got the contract.

My husband has several direct ancestors that fought in the Battle of Tippecanoe and were mentioned in old history books. I have a direct ancestor that was an assist. governor in the original Massachusetts colony. My great grandma had several cousins that were tortured at Alcatraz during WW1 because they were Hutterites and did not believe in going to war. My beloved great aunt was a children's author. She mainly wrote religious type books. People still contact us once in awhile to inquire about her.
They don't have to have been famous to have had a "brush with history."
That's alright, one of mine shined George Washingtons boots for a living. Exciting. Couldn't be like a lieutenant or something.
