If what I figure is true, little marcella would have passed away by now, but, perhaps, she has children it would be nice to connect with. This hobby leads to many things!
Maybe not! My mother in law just came from New York to Georgia for a visit. She was born in Jan., 1923.
Is it possible that the adopted girl might be related to the family through a marriage? I was doing research on a family who had 4 children and then a 5th child, a daughter, with a different surname (Greenwood). In later research, I discovered that the family had an older daughter (in her early 20s at that time) who had married a man with the last name of Greenwood. I haven't been able to find additional details, but I suspect that this daughter is their child and that for some reason the parents could not care for her and gave her to the grandparents to raise.
Ok, I've never found any evicence that Marcella's parents were married. According to WV birth records, she was the first child born to her mother, Eva Alice Rose. Arthur henline is listed as the father.
According to the list of WV prisoners, Arthur henline is recorded as single. They did distinguish between divorced and single, so, they would have indicated if he was divorced, unless he wanted to hide his family.
Of course, it could have been someone else with the same name. Well, regardless, its late and I'm not staying up 'till the birds start singing---again!
The couple of people I know with stories about ancestors and the Orphan Train - it isn't pleasant. For many it was simply government sanctioned indentured servitude.
Yes. In researching the practice, one reads a lot of sad stories Orphan Train Rider Stories
The Orphan Train movement even spawned opinions from the pro-slavery and abolitionist movements because of the kind of servitude those kids went to. It's hard to have a good or bad opinion about it.
Well, here it is, June already! I haven't done much more research on Marcella, bout would like to continue. I also believe she was Mormon---LDS. It would be so interesting to find I have a lost branch on my family tree!
