My most recent discovery:
Last weekend I found an immigration card for my 2ggf to Buffalo, New York in the 1850s.

I haven't had a discovery in a while but this winter I was checking on Ancestry and saw a photo of an old house. It turns out it's in the next town to me and furthermore, it turns out that it's part of my family history. When spring came, I made an appointment to get a tour of it. I love to go places where my ancestors lived but I never knew I had any so close!!!!

My most recent discovery was finding my great grandmother's passenger list. Turns out, I had been searching for the wrong name, like an idiot. I knew her as Josephine but she was Italian so I started trying some Italian diminutives for the name and finally struck gold with Giuseppa. I confirmed it by the fact that it said she was travelling to meet her husband, Angelo Scioli. And even better, it listed the address he was living at and from that I found out he was living with members of Josephine's family and that the address is now that of an Italian Restaurant.

I found in which place my grandfather KIA in WWII. It was in August 1944, in operation "Barbarossa" near Minsk, Belarus. And I found his military ID.

Have found that at least one of our French surnames in NH came from Quebec.

I found the hospital records of my cousin's G-grandfather when he briefly served in the US Merchant Marine in the late 1800's. [he decided he'd rather farm in Barbados & soon went back home]. But he always had a preference for 'American Twist' tobacco - now we know where he got it...

My paternal great grandfather joined the Confederate Cavalry in MO at the beginning to the Civil War and (the new info I learned was) his unit surrendered in New Orleans at the end of the war and he was a POW for a period of time.

Found out my Maternal Grandfather was a Kuomintang Soldier during the Chinese Civil War, no idea which unit or where he served since he burned all related documentation when it became clear that the Communists were winning.

Here in Australia, we have a digitised newspaper system called Trove. Up until last year, it was mainly the capital city and national papers up to the mid 1950s. Last week, I just went look something up unrelated to genealogy and noticed that they have vastly increased their digitised newspaper selections, including a newspaper very close to the very small town where ancestors have resided for over 150 years. By filtering just this newspaper and also the surname of ancestors and the name of the very small town, I've managed to find a lot of obituaries and articles about grandparents/great grandparents etc. This newspaper also had a correspondent from the town so I could read about what events are on and when. Some of the gems found are an article about my greatgrandparents wedding and an article about my greatgrandmother's early death.

Woohoo! With the address, I also just managed to confirm Angelo's passenger list which says that his brother Giovanni was also at this address. I previously didn't have any names for Angelo's siblings so yay, big discovery!
