I thought it would be interesting to see how long some families live. For me, most of the sides of the family live fairly long. I actually had a gggg grandfather who lived to be 100- and this was all the way back in the very early 1900s.

How long did your Great-Grandparents live? Grandparents? Parents? If they didn't live to be very old, how did they die?

Here's mine:

Paternal Grandfather's parents:
Great-Grandpa lived to be 80
Great-Grandma lived to be 97

Paternal Grandmother's parents:
Great-Grandpa was only 62 when he died-he had emphysema
Great-Grandma was about 80

Maternal Grandfather's parents:
Great-Grandpa was 80
Great-Grandma was only 50-she had cancer and it wasn't as treatable back then.

Maternal Grandmother's parents:
Great-Grandpa lived to 90
Great-Grandma lived to 94
(Its rumored they were even older than they were said to be-some relatives have said they were at least 2-3 years older and they always just got church documents but nothing else, no official birth certificate or nothing)

My paternal Grandma died in her 70s and the rest of my grandparents are still living and are in their mid to late 80s.

My maternal great-grandmother & her sister lived in their 90s although my maternal grandmother died at 77 from pancreatic cancer (which is still not very treatable).
My maternal grandfather died at age 80.

My paternal grandmother lived until 91 and her younger sister lived until 93/94.
My paternal grandfather lived until 85.

my paternal grandmother: She was 90s (she smoked til age 83!) her dad: 93, her aunt, 103.
Rest of family into the mid-early 80s.

Particularly worrisome to me though, our Mom contracted a very rare type of cancer late 50s and was dead at 62

Great-Grandma lived to be 97

Paternal Grandmother's parents:
Great-Grandpa was 83
Great-Grandma was 69

Maternal Grandfather's parents:
Great-Grandpa was 82
Great-Grandma was 79

Maternal Grandmother's parents:
Great-Grandpa lived to 74 (smoker who got cancer)
Great-Grandma lived to 96

My maternal Grandpa died at 76 from a preforated ulcer and the rest of my grandparents are still living and are in their mid to late 80s.

I have an ancestor who supposedly lived to be about 115 but that's doubtful.

Not too long ago I used FTM to calculate my ancestor's average age at death - it's 69.4. The median is 71, the mode 80. So yes, most of my ancestors seemed to live longer than the average.

I also forgot to add I have a Great-Great-Great Grandmother who lived to be 104. This is my Great Grandma who lived to be 94's grandma.

Some you all have some very strong longevity in your family lines. Overall there seems to be longevity in my family, but it is extremely uneven as quite a few died somewhat young. 1 of my grandparents lived to 92. The others died much younger, from age 30 to age 54. For great-grandparents the age range at the time of death that I have found is about 31 to 90.

Longevity was very common on my mother's side; her mother lived to be 97, and only died then because she developed pneumonia after a slip-and-fall accident. With the exception of her oldest sister who had cancer, my mother and all of her siblings lived well into their 80's, and my oldest uncle passed away a month before his 90th birthday. When I did some research, I found that was the pattern for previous generations, too- they all lived to be old except those who died in accidents.

Not so lucky with my father's side, though- heart conditions took both of his parents and all 4 of his siblings. The only way he survived it was emergency open-heart surgery, and died of a stroke years later at age 81.

Yes, longevity is the norm in our family, the exception being my dad and one of my mom's siblings. My dad smoked, but his cancer was more than likely work-related.

Definitely not in mine.

My grandparents on mom's side both died before mom turned 18.

My grandparents on dad's side both died before I was 5.

My mom died at 70. dad at 79.

2 brothers and 1 sister died before they hit 60.
