Any way to do this easily without permission from the military since it was so long ago? (Combat duty with USCG, North Atlantic)
I'm a newbie at this.
Thanks folks.

Archival Research Room

Military records available for research by others are open at NARA 62 years after discharge... so WWII should be available to you.

A catch, though: there was a fire- I think in the early 1970's- that destroyed many records there.
I heard about this many years ago, and when I tried to locate my father's WW II records not long ago I learned his was included.
But if the OP is only looking for enlistment/draft records, they can be found on ancestry.com

If you know of any alternatives for info, I'd appreciate it.
