My Hilyard line has hit a brick wall. I have traced back to Enoch Hilyard b: 1820 in Delaware. Haven't been able to find his parents. I have found his marriage certificate which does not list his parents, nor does his death record. Other then his marriage record their is no record of him pre 1850. Not sure where to go from here...
Do you have an idea of what county he was born in, or what county his parents might have lived in? I would look for tax record, and wills/probate records of people in that county who could have been his parents.
Hi, thank you! Enoch lived in New Castle, DE in adulthood but I may have been from Duck Creek which is now Smyrna, DE in Kent County. In one census a William Hilyard lived with Enoch in New Castle and his birth date is listed as 1791, not sure if William is his father or another relative.

I would look for William's will - a lot of times, the living heirs/children are listed in the will. If William had a will, and it lists his children, and Enoch is one of them, that is one way to connect them.
