Anyone find their terminology for family trees confusing? Or perhaps it's a cultural thing. In Mexico my parents first cousins are called tios or tia (uncle or aunt) and in a family tree they would be 2nd gen uncle or aunt; their second cousins would be my 3rd gen uncle or aunt. On Ancestry they're referred to as 1st cousin 1x removed, so basically anyone not a sibling is a cousin they just add 1x,2x, 3x times removed, seems more complicated then simplying saying 1st, 2nd, 3rd gen cousin or as mentioned above 1st, 2nd, 3rd gen aunt or uncle.

Well nevermind, feel partially foolish starting this thread without first having added more people to the tree, seems there are 2nd cousins after all.

Yes, there are also 3rd cousins, 4th, etc. Once removed denotes a generational gap, as per the standard: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cousin#Cousin_chart
