A Spanish surname. Never met another American black family with the name Cruz. I have just a few living Cruz relatives left. There's no link whatsoever to a Latin-American. My Cruz ancestor was also not owned by a family with that name. They may have just chose this surname arbitrarily.
Whitesides.
This is a common surname, but its just odd sounding to me.
Loud
Uncommon. I think we are the only African-American Loud family in the country.
Recently I have been tracing one of my ancestor's who some other people in my genealogical circle believed descended from a woman with the surname of Mnu.
I don't even know how to pronounce that lol (I'm thinking "new" is the pronunciation).
I knew a Turnipseed. Was a cousin of a Hegwood, both unusual names. As for Rebsamen, I was born at a Rebsamen Memorial Hospital.
That's cool - there are a few Rebsamens around but neither Rebsamen nor Turnipseed are common last names. I think Turnipseed is the more common of the two but I could be mistaken.
I recently found out that my mothers father had 3 brothers that went to MN from Hungary. I never found them before because the last name spelling was changed. I just put it into the last name website; it said I was the only one that entered it.
