Is anyone else having problems getting around on the site? Today, I can't create a tree. It says to come back later. The other day I couldn't get into some of the census records. Are they doing some work on the site or something?

Ancestry usage gets very heavy from Thanksgiving to New Years, as gift subscriptions are given. Be patient and keep trying.

I've experienced similar problems and agree it's most likely related to high traffic. I've had trouble getting their Home page to load, often needing to bypass it altogether. Ancestry could definitely use more bandwidth but I'm not holding my breath. Their cyber Monday DNA deal is most likely driving a lot of traffic with the lowest price I can recall them offering. As Arkay says, it's a busy time of the year for them. My experience has been that their heavy traffic continues well into January or beyond. I guess a lot of pholks get gift memberships for Christmas, and I suspect a lot of us spend more time there during the colder, darker months. I've found it is easier to do research on Ancestry if you can avoid the peak hours. The website seems to run a lot better on weekday mornings than weekend evenings, for example. Give me patience, Lord. Right now, dammit!!

I'm bummed. I tried several times last night, at 4 am, and now and I still can't create a new tree. Someone on one of my family Facebook pages is looking for what happened to a person and I wanted to try and figure it out. This particular person doesn't belong on my tree and I want to be able to experiment so I start a new tree.

I have always created my trees in FTM software and then synced them to Ancestry, so I don't have a lot of expertise with online trees, but I just tried creating one on their website and did not encounter any problems at all. Are you getting error messages? What happens when you try? Are you sure you are logged in? If you'll post a little more info, I'm sure someone on here can help.

Sarah, that's the main clue that their servers are overloaded. Try a different time of day/evening/night and find the time that works for you.

I got a few 503 errors last week. I haven't this week, but I agree that things do slow down a bit at ancestry over the holidays. It's an easy access point and so commercialized (not that it's a bad thing) that a lot of people like seeing what it's about and after their bored with it they disappear.

I got a few error messages this evening. I just keep trying, and eventually, I get lucky again.

I'm still not in. I guess I'll have to work on the one tree I can access.
