From the article: "'I suspect this will be the last straw for all the genealogists who don’t want to share with law enforcement,' Debbie Kennett, a genealogist and honorary research associate at University College London, told WIRED."

Oh effing wow! Thanks so much for posting. This is really disturbing. I don't know how he could sell it to them saying they said they'll keep it as it is. I really do not believe that!
I have not logged in yet and am going to take a few days before doing so and accepting whatever new terms they have or just delete my profiles; if in fact it will delete them! I wish he would have given everyone a heads up. Why he didn't really makes me wonder...
I just removed all of my kits based on this and suspect they will have way below 1 million kits soon. The chatter on the genealogy sites I follow isn't supportive of this.

I just posted in the Hungarian DNA FB group and am hoping it doesn't get removed as off topic.
*sigh* I confirmed the new terms for now. Not sure if I will keep the accounts though. I has been so long since any matches of interest have been downloaded, and the free tools haven't been updated for years. In most ways, they were better and easier to use before the transition to Genesis.
I'm not really surprised - Curtis has seemed fed up with it for a while now, so I was already expecting that he'd be looking to sell it, and given LE interest in it, it doesn't surprise me at all. Oh well, I never really got much use out of Gedmatch anyway.

I agree. GEDmatch was better before genesis. I rarely even look because I don't have close matches. I'm there maybe 4 or 5 times a year if someone tags me in an ethnicity FB group.

I'm one of the admins in a fairly large genealogy group and will be stating me reasons for removing my kits on there.
I don't have many matches in the Hungarian group but the ones I have, I know they come from my mothers maternal side. We've talked on messenger and at My Heritage. The last time I tagged people, some didn't even respond. It won't be a big loss if I remove my kits since no one matches my dads brother yet. That's the link I really want to know.
I think my biggest fear is they will back up our samples to another "server" but turn it into a LE exclusive database
