I have one POTUS in my tree, Richard Nixon. He's a 7th cousin on one of great-grandmother's family. Her side of the family were Quakers, hence Nixon, the only Quaker president. I'm thankful for her side of the family since the Quakers valued literacy and education and were meticulous records keepers for hundreds of years. Tracing that side of the family was easy. It was practically copy and paste back to the 1500s.

So far FamilySearch has not shown any famous relatives on my mother's side because they were born in Germany, Austria and Slovakia.

Now if I could fill out my tree for my paternal grandfather (Chambers), it would be interesting to see if there are any famous people on that line.

Yes. A friend found out she was a direct descendant of Martin Van Buren.

I met a lady who's surname was one of my family names.

When I mentioned that to her she said "Honey, if you go back far enough we're all related."

I'm supposedly related to Rollo the first Duke of Normandy but who knows.

It's amusing when people claim to be related to Charlemagne as so many do.

Gary Puckett from the 60s group is actually a second or third cousin, knew that without the family tree business- never met him, lol.

I mean, they are—along with almost everyone else with at least a drop of European ancestry.

Exactly.

But they say it like it's a mark of distinction for their family alone.

All of these famous relatives, whether royalty or soldier or president or actor, can be combined with about $2.50 at a Starbucks or someplace similar for a cup of coffee.

I have never heard anyone stand up and announce they were related to Hitler, or John Wilkes Booth, or Vlad the Impaler. It is interesting to do the research and consider the history our ancestors might have witnessed but it really has no actual importance. Our ancestors were often enemies, and we are just lucky they didn't kill each other.
