How do I price items at a yard(moving) sale?

I really feel like garage sales are just, take stuff...maybe expect to make a little bit of money, but it is mostly just get rid of stuff. I am having one next weekend...and what does not go, goes to salvation army at the end of the day. My Mom had a garage sale, and basically found the whole thing so frustrating, that she refused to have one again...
