Obviously not the solid pieces, but Ikea type stuff that comes apart? I'm using a UPack service so I have limited trailer space and I'm debating between taking everything apart and just packaging the pieces together flat in moving blankets... Or if I should leave them assembled and just take out the drawers?? Any advice/experience? I'm leaning towards taking them apart entirely but I don't really want the headache of having to put them back together on the other end

It'll depend on a few things - how study is it? meaning if you unscrew it will it strip holes and make the item more wobbly. How big is it? will it make lifting and putting in a moving truck difficult or take up too much space. How useful is it? If it wasn't that expensive and has had a good useful life, maybe selling it and not paying the expense to move it the better option.

yes, always detach screws and bracing before moving, there will be damages if you do not.

I've already moved it three times (once from Canada, twice between states) and it's still mint condition.. the difference is I took it apart all the other times and individually wrapped the pieces together flat. I was just hoping not to have to do all that this time, but I think to keep it in good condition I'm gonna have to.

Honestly most people would probably just replace it, but it's stuff that matches my other more expensive pieces and I don't want to have to bother replacing it. I know that's odd but I would much rather spend money to move it than have to take a day trip to Ikea to replace it all on the other end haha

The bed was the only piece of furniture that was taken apart.

I take it all apart, I bought my IKEA stuff with that in mind. I have been moving frequently (though seem to ave settled in Miami!), so I always had the focus on being mobile.

Electric screw driver really helps, also make sure to put the screws and stuff in a bag and label it if you have a few items to take apart.

If I could dismantle it, I did. Wrapped each piece individually (to prevent scrapes and dents) and zip locked all screws, washers, etc. and kept with the piece.

If it took more than 1 box, I labeled it clearly and wrote "1 of 3", "2 of 3", and so forth.

Take apart and wrap anything you can. Not only will the items take up less space that way, but you'll be less likely to ding, dent, break or bend anything.

For instance, I took the legs off all my tables, wrapped them together, and secured them to the underside of the table, then wrapped the whole thing. I neglected those last two steps the first time I moved, and wound up with three legs instead of four for one of my tables.
