My son and I used it driving from Memphis to Castro Valley, CA. On the first afternoon, we saw a warning about a tornado watch for Little Rock and kept on going. The tornado struck the next day, admittedly north of I-40, but you never know. It also got us from Barstow to Livermore, CA, via the shortest (and fastest) route, which can be a tricky drive after you leave I-40. It is great for navigating Bay Area freeways, which are often congested on off hours due to collisions.
