I did a search online and in this forum but not finding so far a good realistic tool to help me plan a long haul move. Anyone used a good checklist/ planner?
I'm planning for a move and for managing my actual stuff I downloaded an app called Moving Organizer Pro. It only deals with your possessions, not a checklist of other stuff like transferring your internet service and making sure you get the power turned on ahead of time at your new place, but it works really well for keeping track of your stuff. You can make an unlimited number of boxes, assign a value to the contents of each box or piece of furniture, keep track of total volume of boxes and furniture, and you can take pictures and do audio if you want to list the items in a box. You can assign a room or location to each box and even though when you create a new box it defaults to a number ("Box 302") the name can be changed if your system is different (Kitchen 91, 92, 93... or whatever). The file can be backed up to Dropbox and you can print a paper copy if you need to.
The Pro version costs a dollar, but there are no ads to deal with. There's a Lite version that is free (but has ads).
When we moved from Denver to Southeast Kansas, I used a leather planner. It had pockets for important papers, and a tabbed section of lined paper. I used one sections for the boxes. We numbered them and listed the contents. Another section was used for things we needed to remember to do, people to call, etc.
We only had a month to get everything done, and this worked very well. The planner zipped shut, and I kept it with me wherever we went.
