I'm with Kimba...if you can do all kinds of maintence... changing faucets, fixing leaks, changing garbage disposals, changing light fixtures...etc... you guys could live on-site in an apt complex and potentially live rent-free.
good luck!
You may want to look on Craig's List and Monster.com for jobs in various cities that you might want to move to. The key for you sounds like finding a job first. Then every other decision will become clearer. Good Luck!
Where is your family, where is your wife's family? Moving cold, without having a place to go, a job, and knowing anyone is hard. Perhaps you have family out of state that are in a more desireable area, and could also help you out a bit as far as finding a job and a new home.
I agree with Christina, moving close to family is a good idea. Especially if your "Moving Cold". Will also boost the morale of your family knowing that there is someone around to help you out (even if its just to show you where the local market is). People need people.
