Looking to move, could use some helpful info (living, low cost)

So, my girlfriend and I are looking to move somewhere that has a warm to mild climate year round. We have both lived in MI all our lives, and hate the cold/snow. We are looking to stay close to a somewhat medium sized city (bigger than grand rapids at least). We are kind of looking at Salt Lake City, Portland OR, or maybe somewhere in CA.

Would anybody on here happen to have any insights or suggestions? Also, we like things of culture (museums, art galleries...), but aren't much on night life, clubs, or bars.

If you're looking to avoid cold/snow you should probably mark Salt Lake City and Portland off your list. Portland doesn't get a lot of snow and isn't that cold, but it does rain and is overcast...a lot.

For a medium sized city with warm/mild climate, a well rounded community and extensive cultural offerings check out Raleigh, North Carolina or Louisville, Kentucky.

I will definitely check those out! I was also thinking about Austin, TX and Phoenix, AZ. I've heard nice things about both cities and I hear Austin has an especially low cost of living!

Austin has the high humidity, but a cool music scene.

Phoenix is more dry and I say it would be a fit for someone not interested in a bustling metro or fantastic night life. It is the "things of culture" requirement that kind of crosses Phoenix off the list. We have a few nice museums I guess, but nothing in comparison to other cities of this size.

Come out and visit Phoenix. It is the perfect time of year.
