The obvious ones are Nashville, Austin, LA, and New York. What are some other places out of the spotlight that are known for their music scenes?

Seattle has a vast and popular live music scene. You can't throw a rock without hitting a music venue.

Chicago has live music, but it isn't known for live music.

I'm under the impression that the OP's looking for cities whose reputations are centered around the music scene...places like Nashville, for example.

Im interested in both. Cities with music scenes that arent known for the music scene are probably less saturated and always interesting to check out. Lawrence KS, for example.

Im from Jacksonville Florida.. Til 2006 this place was awesome.. Athens Georgia... I don't know what kinda music you are into or where you got that bad info.. but NO WHERE in Georgia is good for anything but getting in trouble.. Savannah is okay.. but not enough to say its a music spot.. Athens is similiar to Gainesville.. sometimes its happening.. sometimes its not.. But if you are trying to go somewhere with your music don't come to Florida or Georgia..

If youre a hipster bike riding vegan trendy type person.. Asheville SC and Bolder Colorado.. and The bay area is where you want to be... If you are into cover bands and lynyrd skynyrd and older music JAcksonville and Daytona are cool... If you are into pop and rap and stuff that isnt real music.. Miami and Atlanta are cool.. But if you are into NEW rock and REAL punk and Ska and Indie and good stuff... Let me know PLEASE.. I want out of this hellhole but I dont know where to go.. New Orleans is also a great spot for all you homeless traveling folk hippy punks.. Orlando is over rated and dead now as well as tampa/st pete... Tallahassee sucks... Ive been touring for over 15 years and I know a lot about a lot of places.. But as of recently that's about the best advice I can give. I dont want to judge cities I havent been to or experienced lately..
