My kids have never even heard of "Devils Night, Mischief night, etc..." and at 13 years old, you know darn well the oldest would perk up if he thought he could get away with being a reckless little **** for an evening.
When I was a kid, house and storeowners used to have to worry about Mischief Night - the night before Halloween when kids would TP trees, break windows with stones, break into cars, and set dumpsters (and in some cases, houses,) on fire.
I haven't seen or heard of this lately - did kids wimp out? What Happened?
Yes, kids wimped out. They have also become brain-washed by the police and their parents. You know, you COULD have mischief night if you do it right. If you give the kids a safe space, like a park or parking lot. Tell them they have to stay there. There have to be certain rules also, like NO LONG-THROWING OF EGGS, which can seriously injure someone. No hitting in the face or head. You cannot use something that will injure or hurt someone, like nair. Then let them go at it! It's a damn shame, you know. Mischief night use to be my favorite night of the year. A night for release and fun. But since 9/11, that has all changed. What a damn shame!
It must be somewhat a regional thing. Not something I've ever experienced or even heard of living in the South and Southwest.
Right. It only happened here in new jersey, new york and pennsylvania. You CAN make it happen if you want, IF YOU HAVE THE BALLS, but I seriously DOUBT THAT because NONE OF YOU KIDS TODAY have ANY BALLS!

That's right because it didn't happen at all in Michigan, only in three states, new jersey, new york and pennsylvania. You still can do it, but you have to plan first. You have to get enough people interested, boys and girls, find a safe place where you won't be bothered by the cops, and STAY THERE! You have to plan what you are going to do once you get there. I suggest boys vs girls. Of course, this is all predicated on you having the balls to do that, which i doubt.
True the numbers are down, but it hasn't gone away.
In New Jersey, it is as good as dead. It has been since 2001. I know, i have gone out every year since then and found NOTHING, especially recently. As far as I'm concerned, mischief night is dead!

My kids have respect, something you obviously never taught yours.
I'd heard of it somewhere along the way, but it's never been a part of any culture I've lived in (mostly in the South). Sounds really stupid and pointless to me.

Shut the hell up. What type of parent are you?

Exactly. Who calls kids sissies for not damaging property?
