Many thanks to user Bowie for pointing me to this amazing resource.

Wondering where in the world you should move or vacation? Do you want a small city with lots of expensive restaurants, an older population, sunny weather, low property taxes, an educated populous, and great bookstores? A big city with cheap rent, diversity, fine arts venues, opportunities for higher education, and a liberal atmosphere? Check out this book: Amazon.com: Places Rated Almanac: The Classic Guide for Finding Your Best Places to Live in America (9780979319907): David Savageau: Books: Reviews, Prices & more
For $17 you'll have 400 pages of information on some 379 metropolitan areas in the United States. There's a 72 question test in the beginning so that you can figure out exactly what you're looking for.

I see lots of posts on this site asking "where should I move? I want this, this, and this" (I'm no exception) and upon getting this great recommendation from Bowie (and excitedly receiving it from Amazon yesterday afternoon), I had to share.

So if you're considering going some place new, this $17 investment is the least you can do for yourself. I'll definitely be buying a copy for my parents who move constantly (I moved 40+ times in my 17 years at home) and wind up miserable because they practically point to any spot on the map and just go, with no idea what to expect.

I highly recommend this book!
