Hi Everyone,

I was curious what your opinions are regarding living in places with fantastic night views. I grew up & live in Los Angeles so as you know, the only stars we see out here are the fake Hollywood type. I'd love to live somewhere under a brilliant starry night sky.

I've been hearing that Flagstaff, AZ is a great place, seeing as they were the first "International Dark Sky City." Do any of you live in places that offer a starry sky?

Thanks in advance !

Midland Texas, or anywhere in west Texas really. Or, Santa Fe New Mexico.

You might find the map on this page useful.

//www.city-data.com/forum/city-...-nights-3.html

It looks like much of the Northern Rockies, the western part of the Northern Plains, and the more deserted parts of the Southwest. I'd also say Alaska as it's sparsely populated. Cloudiness can be a factor though so I might say the more deserted areas of the Southwest plus maybe the Alaskan interior and Montana. For the more Northern edge of that perhaps the area around Fairbanks, Alaska or Havre, Montana.

This is an odd source, as it's an election map, but you can find population density by county with it. That might help on the Southwest. Socorro, New Mexico is a small/smallish town that looks to be in a sparsely populated area. There's probably others in Northern and Central New Mexico.
