Always amazed me about the U.S. how someone can live in a quiet little suburban street with no more than a dozen houses and their address is 24289 Amberleigh Terrace or something.

In Europe they actually start counting at 1 when a new street starts, so you have addresses like 17 Gloucester St. and it's basically unheard of to go beyond 3 digits for street addresses.

Because they usually go by block numbers.

If Gloucester St is on the 8000 block off of 21st St (For Example), the addresses start at that number.

Lots of towns and cities in the Northeast are like this. We lived in two different houses in a city in WNY when I was a kid. One was at the end of a two block street and its number was 90. We moved to anther street and our number was 130.

My daughter's house in PA has an address of 9.

There is a 107800 Overseas Hwy, Key Largo, FL 33037. ...

Beat that .... lol

But according to Google, there is the world’s highest street address number in Canada: 986039 Oxford-Perth Road, Punkeydoodles Corners.
In many parts of Ontario, rural addresses have a six-digit number.

Interesting discussion. So it looks like no seven digit addresses exist.

With such a long numerical address it's easier to make mistake...

942704 Old Nassauville Rd, Fernandina Beach, FL 32034

Was doing a bit of poking around on Google Maps and found this absolute behemoth of an address number; I have no idea why this number is so big compared to the surrounding area (90000s)

I haven't looked around the area to see if there's anything higher yet either

(I'm also a new member so sorry if I'm bumping this old thread lol I just wanted to share)

edit:
990996 OK-102, Wellston, OK 74881
... what
it appears after the nearby "1000 Rd" it loops back to the 100,000s unfortunately

If we are including dashed numbers then I also found 99-7830 Kolokea Pl, Mountain View, HI 96771

As for the highest number I could find in the US and Canada, I found 999958 ON-11, Thornloe, ON P0J 1S0, Canada, a gas station/store named Janey's Junction
There are no good images of its address number though, highest good image I could find was nearby 999938 ON-11

Not just Europe, many Northeastern cities do the same thing. In my home town, the first house I lived in was at the end of street. My address number was 90. The first house on the street's number was 2. We later moved to a 1/4 mile long street where our number was 130. The last house number on the street was 232.

In older towns in eastern Massachusetts, when street numbers were adopted (often long after streets and buildings were first laid out), numbering often began at 1 or 0 at the end of the street closest by direction to the State House (or, outside Boston, old Boston Proper). You'd get half numbers when lots were divided and buildings inserted, also true in the British Isles.
