Outside what passes for the "big city" in Oregon (Portland), the state is mostly ag and resource-oriented, hence: lots of country music. Bands from the area tend toward the rock-country, alt-country, roots country, whatever you want to call it rather than than the pop country found on all the "big" country stations. There is a pretty strong bluegrass contingent as well.
Fishing, boating, camping, hiking and hunting are pretty big activities throughout Oregon, even in Portland. There are a ton of lakes in the Cascade mountains and many rivers and marshes/wildlife refuges (which allow seasonal hunting).
