most places have their own accent, however, some cities have accents so similar that you cant can't tell the differences at all. A couple weeks ago, i was on a flight back to Baltimore from Florida and the guy sitting next to me had a heavy Baltimore accent. While we were talking I asked him what time did the Ravens play since he had a Baltimore accent, I figured he was from here and would know. He told me he wasn't from Baltimore, he was from Philly and that he was a Eagles fan. i was surprised because although i know the two cities have similar accents, i didnt know people spoke exactly the same. I have also noticed that Joe Flacco has a strong Baltimore accent, but he grew up right across the river from Philly in NJ.

I wish I'd spent more time talking to and getting know the people of New Orleans but I only had a day there. I hear New Orleans has a very distinctive accent, but to me a New York accent sounds way more distinctive/recogniseable than any of the accents I heard in that video.

I always wonder why Stl area many have a distinct accent.

The reason why I think it is is due to it's location. I mean you go less than two hours south and you're in Cape Girardeau which is the start of dixie, and you have eastern influences as well as northern too.

I think it's because you have so many people from north and south, and east all mixed in caused the distinct accent, of northern, southern, and eastern due to it being in a border state.

Except there is nothing southern about St. Louis' dialect at all.

It's basically Northern Minnesotan combined with Chicaaaago! Fun! Definitely Midwestern. I would have expected to hear a New York-like accent because Scranton is so close to NY.

I need to visit Scranton someday.

exactly right. st. louis is an urban island that has a decidedly northern dialect, in contrast to the areas surrounding it, which tend to be midland and midland south influences.

New Orleans accents are far more recognizable than the New York one's I've heard. Then again, it varies with people.
