Yet it has one of the lowest murder rates of any big city in the country.

Newburgh, NY is the most dangerous city in the state. Parts of it are quite run down and crime ridden.

Camden, NJ and East St. Louis, Il are always on the top of the list of the Most Dangerous Cities in America. However, they are not "big cities" in any means of the word.

For small towns, I can also think of the following off the top of my head for being pretty dangerous...Benton Harbor, MI... Chester, PA...Braddock, PA...Newburgh, NY...Poughespsie (sp?), NY...Asbury Park, NJ.

I agree with lentzr Chester, PA... Braddocc, PA etc. I havent really felt unsafe in Asbury Park though. Most of the people ive met there were cool as hell down to earth people. Maybe i just missed something

I hate to knock the St. Louis metro at all- but Washington Park, IL is pretty bad. It's right next to East St. Louis and has a population of just over 5000. If you get off the interstate and take a little drive through Washington Park, the decay and poverty is clearly evident.

From the crime statistics on City Data //www.city-data.com/city/Washin...-Illinois.html it would seem that the crime is many times over the national average per capita.

Registered sex offenders can be high school senior boys who slept with their junior girlfriends. It needs to be more specific.

In terms of real danger, Camden, Detroit, etc...
