Southern California! If you aren't doing 90, for God's sake, stay out of the far left two lanes. I know 90 sounds tame to a lot of you, but here in Michigan people rarely drive that fast. 80, yes. 90? I traverse the expressways around metro Detroit and Ann Arbor weekly and it's very rare. We generally have very good coverage of our highways but the state patrol, thank God!
OP, just out of curiosity; who actually took that picture of your speedometer while you were driving that fast? I sure hope it wasn't you, but even if it wasn't, letting someone hang over you like that when going that fast just to take a picture was a very risky thing to do.
Just to add a few that I didn't mention now that CA was brought up:
California: Craziness. I've been through LA and these are some of the fastest drivers in the country. Also, they are very aggressive. I guess they have to be if they want to get anywhere, though, with all of the traffic.
Texas: Some more speed demons. I've driven from Houston to Galveston and these people fly. If you aren't doing well over 80, you dint belong on the Texas expressways. And I have heard that Dallas is even worse than Houston.
Michigan: Right there with Illinois. You have to be going 15 over (70 in a 55 and 80 in a 65) to keep up with traffic, and then you have the left lane going 25-30 over.

This assessment surprises me a bit as someone who drives the freeways around the Detroit metro every week. I'm assuming that you are referring to a different part of Michigan than where I am, because there are always a lot of cops along the freeways in this area and if you go over 75 on I-94 heading into Detroit from Ann Arbor you can just plan on getting a ticket eventually. Every morning I see at least 2-3 cars pulled over on that stretch of highway, and US 23 between the Ohio state line and Ann Arbor is equally patrolled. If I am in the left lane passing someone and I look down and happen to see that I am close to 80 mph I instantly slow down and check my rearview mirror. I have been warned and I have seen the results of speeding, at least in this area of Michigan. NOT that people don't still drive like idiots at 70-80 of course, that seems to be universal. Tailgating here is sometimes almost as bad as in SoCal.

I was referring to Michiganders in general. Here in Chicago, whenever I see a Michigan plate they are passing me. Whenever I am in Michigan they are going fast (although I admit I do not go there often). Also, I have been told by Ohians that you folk drive fast. Maybe I am wrong, as someone who lives there probably knows much more than me.

I flew into Houston once for a layover so I didn't get to see the drivers up close, but as we were landing I noticed the cars on the freeway looked especially fast even from whatever height the plane was at the time (and it was still pretty high). And while this may not be the best way to judge speed, I remembered that the cars from a similar height in TN didn't look nearly as fast. In fact they didn't look fast at all; it seemed like they were in slow motion.

Hard to say that for Texas. I know after 11 in Houston, 610 turns into a NASCAR track.
I drive I-35 from Dallas to Oklahoma City quite regularly. It's all fast, but once you get out of the DFW metroplex it gets faster, as the traffic begins to drop off. Once you get across the state line and into Oklahoma (past the first exit, and the Windstar Casino) the speed really picks up. Keeping up with the traffic flow, in the left lane, often means going beyond 80. Many times, I've looked down and realized I was going 90 or better. Usually after a few minutes of that, I just move over into the left lane and let some of the crazies pass, but then I get frustrated because that's were all the folks driving uhauls, pulling boats and travel trailers, etc are, and they are usually going below, or just barely at the speed limit. Once you get near the southern sides of the OKC metro area (Norman, Moore) the speed limit drops from 70 to 60 and the drivers start to slow down, as the traffic in the area increases.
I've noticed that on I-44 (Turner Turnpike) between OKC and Tulsa, even though the speed is 75, most people don't seem to speed as much. Usually going only about 80 or so. Probably because there is so much more traffic on the road. I also usually see more highway patrol along the turnpikes.
