Wyoming, Texas, and New Mexico are the big 3 I can think of right off the top.

Nevada and Alrizona should be included as well as parts of California. We still have a few real cowboys here in Colorado too. The most cowboy? Wyoming/Montana and of course Texas.

Texas to me tries to hard to glamourise cowboy cultur. I'd say Wyoming and Montana.

Texas and Wyoming, but especially Wyoming. I actually think of Montana as being equally a farming state.

Cowboy culture is alive and well in many parts of California although Silicon Valley and Hollywood tend to take the spotlight.

Yes, not as many percentage wise are employed in farming/ranching as in the past. Show me a state that has not seen contraction in that industry?

Two of the five biggest ranches in the world are still in Texas.
Texas produces more beef cattle than any state.
Stephenville and Bandera, Texas are known for their Cowboy traditions and ranchers.
There are three big rodeos in Texas annually.
Some of the most renowned boot makers, western jewelers and hitmakers are in Texas.

Florida is noticeably absent from this poll, and that's too bad.

Florida has a very rich ranching heritage and the original Florida Crackers were cowboys. The "cracker" name came from the sound their bullwhips made.

Only on C-D would Wyoming come out ahead of Texas in a poll like this. The average American would say Texas off the strength of the Dallas Cowboys alone.

Assuming we’re talking about real Cowboys. It’s Wyoming, Montana and Idaho.
