What state you suggest a family of 5 to move to? (home, safe area)

We currently live in Iowa, but in a few years we are thinking about moving to the West US. We don't want to settle down in Iowa. I'm originally from California and she's originally from Iowa. I know California is a expensive state to move to but there are cheaper areas like Redding, areas north of Sacramento, etc. It depends where the jobs and good schools are as well as safe areas. I'm not a professional with a degree. We also are thinking about Washington state as well, somewhere in Olympia area. I used to live in Washington state for 10 years.

What kind of work can you do? What are you looking for in a community? Is there a certain region that you and your family prefer?

I can do cleaning related jobs and other stuff.

A family friendly community, lot of cities have those features. We don't really know what region exactly we want, but preferably not too far from my parents home in Santa Rosa, California.
