My first thought was - does your dream house turn into a costly nightmare if you move here and it takes a while to find jobs? Do you have a backup plan or a nice nest egg to fall back on?
My second thought was - PA is a pretty state, and I thought about moving there, then realized that while I like to look at snow in the winter it's not really something I want to have to deal with for weeks or months at a time.
Have you made up a list of pros and cons for each state? Cost of living, taxes, schools, etc?
Thought about a compromise move to VA?
Where would you move in PA and where you would move in TN? I've met people from PA who moved to TN and only go back for family. If you need a job it may be best to go where you have a job lined up rather than hope you find one in TN. Can the family in TN help you get a job?
I am from PA and retired to TN. I love PA. Beautiful state, people are friendly, and the best food in the US. PA has some of the best schools too. The problem with PA is cost. Everything costs more in PA as opposed to TN.
TN is also a beautiful state. When I walk out my door it looks just like the PA mountains. Costs are far lower here in TN. The only thing that is higher is the sales tax but there is no income tax. Trust me, it is the better deal. You can find a wonderful deal on a house at bargain basement prices.
The problem today is jobs especially good jobs are scarce. If you have a good job offer in PA and nothing in TN I don't think there is much choice. You have to go with the job. The thing is the a drive from TN to PA in most cases is a one day drive. If I were a younger person faced with the same decision and I thought I could find work in TN I would opt for TN. However, before making any commitment be sure you both like the area and the people.
Thank you for all the answers. The job would be near york, pa which has not the most affordable housing ever. He is from chattanooga area of tn. It's not exactly as easy what I want. I want to be close to my family and have a job but I also want my husband to be close to his family.
Donsabi, thank you for your answer. Thats what we keep coming back to. Pa has a job for us and my family but everything costs more there. Tn has cheaper housing and everything else is cheap but my family wont be there and there is alot of in law family drama. I just think I would miss the snow if I moved to Tn. I really like the snow.
PA has many beautiful areas, it depends on where in PA you will live/work. Any commuting involved?
To me, the job is the number one thing. IMO, you can always find the perfect place or best view. As for Winter, yeah, why choose an area with a bad winter when you don't have to. I suppose it depends on how much you don't like Winter.
Well I been all over both and I hated Tennesee, their "mountains" are actually hills compared to CA. Nashville is cool though. Pa, well Bam Margera n some other celebs live there and they r pretty picky so it must not be too bad. I'd pick pa if I had to make a choice.

What about some place near Harrisburg or Lancaster, in terms of a place to live?
Also, maybe he gets paid more in PA too.
