Our large Jewish population. Not everyone knows this, but there are only around 14 million Jews in the world- out of 7 billion people. America is lucky to have such a large number of one of the oldest ethnic and religious groups in the world.
And it says a lot for America's freedoms when you consider how many Jews settled here, seeking freedom from persecution. Discrimination, persecution, expulsion and even extermination has been a constant in Jewish history, and it's a beautiful thing that Jews have immigrated here, added to our country, and flourished unbelievably.

Our status as a melting pot for virtually all cultures and races, and also I'd say our weather. Not too many countries get both freezing cold winters and unbelievably hot summers.

According to this link, there are probably more Muslims than Jews in the USA.

We're lucky to have all forms of diversity. It gives us an open window into the different kinda of cultures and viewpoints there are in the world. Too bad so many people keep the shades pulled down, and fear and hate those with different values.

Most research indicates that cultural assimilation (the melting pot if you will) is associated with poorer health behaviors, worse health, and increased stress.

I wasn't saying it was good or bad, I was just pointing out the fact that we are a melting pot, the most significant one on the planet.

Just one more thing that makes America special.
Did you forget that Israel also has a large Jewish population?

I love the american jewish population. But I think we should be careful not to assume that the large jewish population in the US is any kind of reflection of the 'freedoms' of the US. As I understand, there wasn't all that much logic determining where Jews moved following world war II.
What makes America special is that groups like PETA and the NRA are able to exist. A person is allowed to freely express their views and belong to organizations tat allow them to.
