Manitopia is anong the crowd who will typically say "sweet tea", like the Waffke House, is an indicator of whether someone is southern or not, despite the fact there are places outside the South with sweet tea on the menu (just as you pointed out there are places in Arizona with Waffle House)...

These people use antiquated talking points to define what is southern to them, except when you point out there are non-southerners and non-southern places that do or say or eat the same things ("y'all" is another favorite talking point for these people, despite the fact I've been on both coasts and many places in between and heard people saying "y'all" in many, many places outside the South), they deflect just as he did with his "Congratulations" response to your telling him that map doesn't reflect the full scope of where you can find Waffle Houses...

There are also Waffle Houses in Orlando, Tampa Bay, South Florida, Pennsylvania, Northern Virginia and Maryland that, that map doesn't indicate, but gotta hold tight to that deliberate, struct, unwavering, antiquated definition of "southern"!.....unless we are gonna admit these places are also part of the South (only exception being PA which was never the South), but gotdamn we know we can't call Nova and Maryland the South on here hahaha...

Hilarious...

Agreed.

If you wanted to use an indicator restaurant, Bojangles or Mrs Winner's would be better examples

Things change. I imagine once upon a time Waffle House used to approximate "the south"...

Not to long ago the Kudzu map was dead on. But now that stuff has spread out of the south.
