I'm in the same situation as you OP.

It's a combination of things really (to name a few)...

-Lacks of good paying jobs
-Too much cloudy weather
-Screwy political climate
-The only big city in the state (Detroit) is dying
-Screwy race relations
-

And while not a deal breaker, I have grown increasingly disillusioned with the traditionalist blue collar mentality, where short-term thinking and provincialism prevails.

There are nice things about where I live though...

-Better Made Chips
-Detroit-style Pizza
-Very Rich History
-Faygo

Ahh we are talking about Detroit, the anchor around the neck of my state. Michigan and Detroit are nothing alike. Detroit is just a little hole in the ground thats in the southeast corner of Michigan. Its issues are NOT Michigans issues. Eminem is not representive of Michigan either. Id prefer Bob Sieger, Ted Nuggent or even Kid Rock to be the musicians that represent us. Eminem is an embarassment, that movie 8 mile made our state look like Detroits ghetto.

No *we* are not.

*I'm* talking about Michigan, I just didn't actually say "Michigan" (but the "The only big city in the state (Detroit) is dying" should have been a give-away clue).

But different strokes for different folks. Everyone has different tastes. That's why this thread was created, so we could discuss them.

I live in the Hartford, CT area and am sick and tired of it. I feel like my life came to a screeching halt and that I can't excel, grow or thrive here anymore, simply because I've been here nearly my entire life and am sick of it. It's not a bad place, but it's just old and boring and doesn't have much going for it in terms of excitement.

Default hmm forget dupage county

for a while in the worst of the recession, i lived in a small apt with a buddy above a buisness out in Lisle, IL a far suburb of chicago by rt 53 and I-88. place is so boring, no culture, just plain whitebread re-hash and too small town midwestern. might as well be downstate or in the sticks. the people drive me nuts with their conservativeness, and they totally drive either aloof, distracted, or like their lost. when id make small talk and tell them i was from jefferson park theyd look at me like i was some kind of criminal, or from the worst ghetto. went to the local mall and took an elevator once and the woman in there started to grab her purse with both hands after i boarded. the last time i got into a car wreck was driving through there. some idiot thought itd be a good idea to second guess me passing them, but then decided to run into me instead. cant stand some of the girls there either. tried partying with some of the girls downstairs but they came off stupid tryin too hard to be cool... idk so by the time spring came around, i had just about enough. i couldnt stand hearin the neighbors kid get beat up by the stepdad no more. so strange... i thought itd be ok cuz growin up, my dad owned a buisness in Lisle. people there wouldnt know nothin bout a block party, and would prolly run away if ya brought them there lol...

oh and eminem is ok, better than icp insane clown posse. kid rock and bob seger are cool, and faygo is good stuff and its cheap... moon mist! i been to michigan before, somewhere west of detroit, westmore or westland or somethin... but then again this was pre recession in 2005-6. i remember then thinkin that michigan was more like IL than IN or WI... anyhow only thing in lisle id reccomend is to golf if thats your thing, or visit the morton arboretum. but why would i look at trees there when i can just walk down the block?

Yup! Right now....

Klamath Falls, Oregon.

Unemployment rate here is ridiculous. Im sick of seeing so many slobs and crack heads around here and living off the system.
No room for growth.
Businesses keep closing.
Crime is on the rise.
Gangbangers everywhere.
Lots of people's properties are dumpy.
Run down properties.
Nothing to do.
No beauty to the place. Just dry and brown.....

Can probably think of more but that should some it up.

Orlando, Fl area....it's not all Disney-like.

-Low-paying service economy with very little full-time work
-Largely conservative, religious, hateful/non-tolerant, NRA-loving population
-Highly uneducated population (one of a couple "larger cities" in the US with lowest percent of residents with college degrees)
-Many residents have a misplaced superiority complex. Orlando has a population of 240,000...???
-Not the happiest place one can imagine (one doesn't get the sense people are happy here)
-Inadequate infrastructure (one interstate highway and little in the way of mass transit)
-Cultural wasteland with little interest in the arts
-Horrible food scene (chain restaurants prosper, little access to locally produced foods, just a couple of legitimate farmers markets with actual farmers and even the Whole Foods stores are sub-par editions of what's found elsewhere
-Wal-Mart loving population (enough said)
-The weather (although beautiful October-March offset by vile conditions April-September)
