I agree with the overall point, but I wouldn't say there's no other prominent parts. Compared to Chicago, yeah maybe but St. Louis borders Illinois and part of Illinois is part of its MSA. Then there's places like Rockford with about 500,000 in its MSA and Peoria with over 400,000. Most prominent outside of it might be Champaign, IL which is where the University of Illinois is. VERY good university..

Pennsylvania - Philadelphia

PA also has Pittsburgh which is well known.

Delaware - Wilmington

Yeah, maybe I forgot this one

New York - New York City
Massachusetts - Boston

Florida - Miami (?)

Florida, as well as California have full character by themselves, in addition of FL having three more well-known metro areas, especially Orlando.

Washington - Seattle
Oregon - Portland
Illinois - Chicago
Louisiana - New Orleans
Indiana - Indianapolis

Nebraska - Omaha (?)

Yes. But NE itself is entirely dulled by other surrounding states.

Utah - Salt Lake City
Colorado - Denver (?)

Utah and Colorado have an amazingly beautiful geography and scenarios that make them stand out besides their metro areas of SLC and Denver. The Great Salt Flats and the San Rafael Swell are areas I want to visit in Utah, more than I want to visit SLC.

A (?) means I'm uncertain as to whether or not it really "dulls out" other portions of the state.
Some states are strong by themselves and do not really rely on their metro cities to stand up. As explained, some states like CA and FL have both strong character without the need of the metro areas as well as many metros that share with the state alone its character. Maybe that is why CA and FL are the most desired states, by majority, of the 50 states above all others in addition to their climate.

Yeah I have heard of this University. It's one of the best in some of the areas of study like engineering.
