Seattle is on a very large body of salt water connected to the Pacific, there is a large stretch of sandy beach on Alki over in West Seattle and a big lake on the other side of town so technically it counts. Portland is just a river city, though instead of mentioning beautiful Cannon Beach 1.5 hours away you had to throw in your political cognitive dissonance . This thread isn't about politics, that belongs in this forum where one can bicker to their hearts content.

Moving on to nice places by the sea.......

Not a big fan of the westcoast, the gulf coast is too swampy, and the great lakes has no beaches
Im going stick to the eastcoast
Though, South Florida is too overrated and hurricane prone for me, and anything north of the Carolinas is too cold.
So, I most definently gotta go with Jacksonville
Though, Southern culture is dominant, there is a Hispanic presence, so I do feel at home.
I love Southern food too, and the culture is alright.
More spread out and laid back, definently somewhere I would raise my kids.
Beautiful clean beaches.
Not as hurricane prone as most other coastal areas in the Southern US.
Varied climate, not as hot as South Florida, and not as cold as say, the Carolinas.
Booming economy.
Whats not to love about Jacksonville?

Where's the option for Portsmouth, NH?

Otherwise, if I were to live by the ocean, I'd pick a town instead of a city, like Carmel, CA.

Yes and also Chicago, Milwaukee and Buffalo are really close to the Atlantic Ocean.

Philadelphia is closer to the actual Atlantic Ocean than Baltmore. We are 55 miles as the crow flies. Baltimore is around 88 miles from Cape Henlopen, DE.

Not beautiful clean beaches to me. The gross murky, brown river water that qualifies as the ocean along Jacksonville's beaches. I'd rather take the cold north of the Carolinas than that brown warm soup. I've been there in July and seen it for myself. Same goes for all of Georgia and most of South Carolina.Talk about swampy.

Los Angeles for me. Truely on the Pacific Ocean with perfect weather and endless beaches. Love the beach town getaways and the island getaways.

Seattle is on the coast . Its on an inlet of the Pacific Ocean , The Puget Sound is part of the Salish Sea. So its on the coast of the Salish Sea. But a Sea is not an Ocean true.
