Yup, they can't have interstates because they don't touch any other State.

There is a gap on I-70 that almost nobody knows about, they should probably fix that.

In Hawaii the island of Oahu has the H series freeways with the same interstate shield signage

Still does not negate the need for a freeway through areas. That's why we need a new plan. Nj will most probably go with a train line instead though.

Default There are cheaper alternatives

Your route is not logical. Why travel from Toledo via Hannibal to Joplin, when there are existing Interstates to travel from Toledo to Dallas?!? Indiana has upgraded US-24 and IN-25 to a quality 4-lane between Ft. Wayne and Lafayette. Missouri has/is turning US 36 into a quality 4-lane that links with IL-110, which is designated as an alternate route between KC and Chicago. IL-110 is quality 4-lane in some stretches and shares Interstate 74 & 88 for other stretches. If the traffic counts don't warrant it........................

A more practical alternative to "building Interstates" is to build quality 4 lane roads. You have controlled access at the busy crossings and have limited at-grade crossings at the quieter crossings. Stretches of US-31 between Plymouth and Peru, IN are like this and US-18 between Verona WI and Dodgeville WI are like this. 65MPH speeds, as easy as driving an Interstate, cheaper to build and easy to upgrade as traffic(if traffic) increases. I don't see Federal or State budgets running consistent surpluses and Congress hasn't had the wisdom to increase the fuel tax for highway funds in decades! Where is the $$ going to come from, besides building these roads as tollways.

I am not disagreeing with you. I'm just showing you why a highway was never built in that corridor.

I like the idea of an interstate from Oklahoma City to Denver.
Also, an interstate from Kansas City to Tulsa, then to Dallas.

One pretty big gap is a Mississippi River Interstate connecting New Orleans, St. Louis, and the Twin Cities. There are all sorts of highways and backroads, but there's nothing simple and direct, leaving a lot of isolated holes, especially in the Upper Midwest.

Baton Rouges, LA (replace I-110/interchange with I-10 for connection to New Orleans)
Natchez, MS
Monroe, LA (interchange with I-20)
Pine Bluff, AR (replace I-530)
Little Rock, AR (interchanges with I-30 and I-40)
Jonesboro, AR
Poplar Bluff, MO
Cape Girardeau, MO (join I-55)
St. Louis, MO (interchanges with I-44, I-64, and I-70)
Hannibal, MO (interchange with I-72)
Quincy, IL (replace I-172)
Keokuk, IA
Burlington, IA

THEN EITHER:
Iowa City, IA (interchange with I-80)
Cedar Rapids, IA (replace I-380)
Waterloo, IA
Waverly, IA
Rochester, MN (interchange with I-90)
St. Paul, MN (interchange with I-94)

OR:
Muscatine, IA
Davenport, IA (interchange with I-80)
Dubuque, IA
Decorah, IA
Rochester, MN (interchange with I-90)
St. Paul, MN (Interchange with I-94)

OR:
Muscatine, IA
Davenport, IA (interchange with I-80)
Dubuque, IA
La Crosse, WI (interchange with I-90)
Eau Claire, WI (interchange with I-94)
Rice Lake, WI
Duluth, MN (interchange with I-35)
