Why is Philly not considered cool like Chicago/NYC? (rent, food)

Nashville and Austin are the “it” cities of the moment, but I don’t think they would be considered cool in the NYC, LA, Miami tier. And San Fran would probably have made the cool list if this was 1972 or something. The only city I could see with those 3 is Vegas.

Even Vegas I don’t think people move to Vegas and hope it all works out.
Due to the music industry Nashville has the whole “I’ll bartend/taxi drive/etc until I become a star” kind of people go there. I think it’s in the NYC/Miami/LA tier.

What White people like matters a lot, that’s why Portland got its own stupid TV show about being hip in 2008
Even then, only a subset of White people (who are about 60.1% of the population, not 67%).
If Nashville were that cool, it would have much better tourism numbers, particularly with respect to foreign tourism.
San Francisco gets more tourists from Western Europe than any other American city besides NYC. Why do you think people are going there instead of going to Nashville or Austin?

Orlando gets the most tourists in the hemisphere is it a cool city?
People actually move to Nashville without an economic plan. Nobody moves to SF on a whim and works off jobs until they establish themselves
That’s the definition of a cool city. Not what looks awesome in instagram

Okay, we can quit with the obtuse "B,b-b-ut, Orlando, Vegas and Cancun!!!" comparisons. We know why people are going there. The question is why people are NOT going to Nashville and Austin. How can one of the coolest American cities not even rank in the Top 10 in foreign travelers?

Yes, I know, and you know that tourism is pretty much a totally different subset of factors that make a city cool.
Boston is probably the last city anyone would consider cool. But gets tons of visitors
If you look at migrants only 4 to 5 cities get masses of migrants for non economic reasons. LA, NYC, Nashville and Miami, maybe Austin.

I wouldn't say Boston gets "tons" of visitors. It gets about 500K fewer foreign visitors than DC. Nashville, btw, didn't even register in the Top 25 in 2016. How can such a cool city, that's right up there on the same tier with NYC/LA/Miami, have fewer foreign visitors than Dallas? This is truly mind boggling LOL.
The "coolness" of Nashville and Austin are overrated, or at least it's overrated in this thread. They don't belong in the same conversation with NY and LA. They can't even outdraw Dallas.
And Atlanta would definitely be in the conversation of people moving there for non-economic reasons as it's the de facto capital of Black America and now has a larger Black population than Chicago. There are probably more Black people alone who have moved to Atlanta since 1990 than there are total people who have moved to Nashville.

Also, how can a dying genre of music be associated with "coolness"? How many college students, or even people in their early 30s, are going to pass up a Drake/Future concert to go see [fill in random singer who lives in Nashville]?
