Hello, everyone:

I'm a Colombian immigrant who recently became a citizen, and have lived in NYC for about 10 years. In the South Bronx, to be exact, but moved to Harlem 3 months ago. I've grown tired of the city, and I am seeking to start anew.

Qualities of my ideal city:

- Not densely populated. For it to have a small town feel, if that's possible.

- Job opportunities. (I graduated high school 6 months ago. I have 18 college credits, but have no job experience.)

- Has a laid-back, slow pace of life.

- Liberal or Moderate in political ideology.

- I'm not a big fan of snow or cold weather, but wouldn't mind it if there is some snowfall. -- I love spring weather.

- Low to average cost of living. Rent that wouldn't surpass the amount of $700 for a studio or 1 bedroom.

- Quaint, but lively.

I know there probably isn't a place that meets all of these ideals, but at least somewhere that somewhat resembles it.

About me: I'm into historical texts, philosophical discourse, folk/rock music, comedy (movies, tv, stand-up), chess, coffee, and a good steak. I keep to myself a lot, but I'd like to think of myself as a friendly person.

If you reply, I'd like to thank you in advanced for taking the time to do so, as people post quite a lot of these type of threads.

Cheers.

If you can let go of the weather criteria a bit I think you would find places like Ann Arbor MI, Bloomington IN or Charlottesville VA to be very good matches.

Charlottesville : Better Quality of Life
Ann Arbor Area CVB | Restaurants, Hotels, Events & More
Bloomington, Indiana Tourism | Visit Bloomington

Perhaps places like Blacksburg and Harrisonburg in VA, Morgantown WV; OH locales like Oxford, Kent, Athens and Bowling Green and if you don't mind Upstate NY, a place like Glens Falls may work.

If you didn't mind snow, an Upstate NY area that could work is the Fredonia/Dunkirk area. I'm not sure about the job market in the immediate area, but Fredonia has a 4 year SUNY campus and Dunkirk has a pretty high Hispanic/Latino population. So, you could try to continue your education and perhaps due to speaking Spanish, could have some value in the Hispanic/Latino community in the area as well. It is in between Buffalo and Erie PA. If you can drive, you could look for jobs in those areas, if you couldn't find something in that immediate area.

I would've recommended LA or San Diego for the spring-like weather year-round. It's pretty much always sunny and 70F in both cities. San Diego, while being the 2nd largest city in the West Coast, feels like a small town. It also has loads of suburbs by the beach or the desert that you can live in and be at peace, but the big city amenities aren't too far away if you need them. Same goes for LA, but of course it is more crowded there. If you need snow, the mountains are right there. Both cities are expensive though. And there is a large Latino community in both cities, but especially LA. The people are somewhat reserved at first but friendly nonetheless, and the lifestyle is laid-back. The only negative I can think of for you would be the cost of living. Perhaps somewhere in Florida would be more to your liking, such as Tampa, Sarasota or St. Peteresburg on the Gulf, or Fort Lauderdale on the Atlantic.

Many New Yorkers seem to be moving into Columbus, Ohio in droves so maybe look into Columbus.
